Year 10 of Dirty Kanza brought about some pretty tough conditions for competitors. It became dubbed the “Year of the Mud” and inspired the #dklegends – all finishers of that year earned some extra special recognition and bragging rights as conditions of the Kanza leveled the playing field and threw many unexpected difficulties at competitors.
You can imagine that the photography from that year is just as memorable. Images from 2015 can still be seen across the cycling industry today. Maxxis Tires uses an image of Rebecca Rusch grinding in up a hill from that year. (Check out our latest newsletter for some info on the tire/wheel/sealant discussion). Sean Mailen, Salsa Cycles Warbird designer, gets after it crossing a cattle crossing. Social media threads contained so many iconic shots, and rightly so. It was epic.
If you’d like a quick walk down memory lane, take a peak at a few of the DK photographers pics – and tune in to our dirtykanza instagram account. We will be featuring flashbacks from the last 12 years over the next several months. If you’ve got a great shot you’d like shared – send it along to firstname.lastname@example.org (please include photo cred, folks in the pic, and the year). We will share these on our IG account!
